More Than a 5K: How the To Write Love On Her Arms “Move For It” Event Supports Mental Health in Brevard County
There are battles happening quietly all around us that many people never see.
That’s what made this year’s Move For It 5K with To Write Love On Her Arms such an important event here on Florida’s Space Coast.
Recently, I had the opportunity to sit down with Lindsay from To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA), an organization that actually began right here along the Space Coast nearly 20 years ago. What started as one story shared online has grown into a global movement focused on hope, connection, mental health awareness, therapy access, and reminding people they do not have to walk through hard things alone.
And while TWLOHA is now nationwide, one thing that really stood out to me is this:
The money raised locally stays here in our Brevard County community.
That means the support generated through events like the Move For It 5K directly impacts people right here on the Space Coast through therapy scholarships, peer support groups, and mental health resources.
Supporting Mental Health on Florida’s Space Coast
This year’s Move For It 5K in Satellite Beach brought people together not just to run or walk, but to create real impact for local mental health care accessibility.
According to Lindsay, the event’s goal was to help raise $50,000 for the local community while also supporting TWLOHA’s larger initiative to fund 20,000 hours of mental health care through:
10,000 hours of therapy support
10,000 hours of peer support
One of the most powerful parts of our conversation was hearing how peer support works.
As Lindsay explained, peer support is not clinical therapy. It’s people simply showing up for one another. It’s creating spaces where people can be honest about what they’re carrying without feeling isolated or judged.
Because the truth is, mental health struggles often convince people they have to go through things alone.
And that simply isn’t true.
Why This Event Matters to the Brevard County Community
What makes the Space Coast community special is the way people show up for one another.
The Move For It 5K wasn’t just another community event. It was a reminder that conversations around mental health deserve space, compassion, and continued support.
Throughout Brevard County and the Space Coast, organizations like To Write Love On Her Arms are helping connect people to:
Affordable mental health care
Therapy scholarships
Peer support groups
Local community resources
Educational outreach and awareness
Whether through events, schools, churches, online support, or local gatherings, the mission continues to center around one simple but powerful idea:
You are not alone.
Thank You to Everyone Who Participated
It was incredible seeing so many people come together in support of mental health awareness here on the Space Coast.
From volunteers and sponsors to participants and organizers, every person involved helped create something meaningful for our community.
If you’ve ever struggled personally, supported someone you love through a difficult season, or simply believe mental health conversations matter, this event was a beautiful reminder of the power of community connection.
